The Abu Dhabi Poetry Festival brought down the curtain the day before yesterday on its first session, which was organized under the slogan “Poetry Inspires Us” over the course of four days at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center (ADNEC).
The Cultural and Heritage Festivals and Programs Management Committee – Abu Dhabi, which organized the festival in cooperation with the Emirates Heritage Club, announced that attendance at the festival exceeded expectations. Pointing out that it attracted large audiences of visitors who came to interact with poets, intellectuals, and those concerned with Arabic poetry, and the number of creative people who attended the festival reached more than 1,000 poets, writers, and researchers, in addition to more than 500 male and female poets who were nominated to meet the jury of the Million Poet program. The festival received more than 15,000 visitors who were introduced to distinguished poets in the Arab world through dozens of poetry evenings, discussion and artistic sessions, popular performances, and interactive games.

The festival was accompanied by the Abu Dhabi Poetry Conference, which lasted for three days. During the sessions, researchers presented many visions and ideas related to Arabic poetry in general and Nabataean poetry in particular.
The scientific committee at the conference recommended the importance of exploring new axes to enrich the role of the cultural and heritage movement and expand its specializations to be an outlet for poetry and poets, motivating those with serious talents, and developing creative content through in-depth academic studies characterized by novelty and objectivity.
She called for more attention to manuscripts of Nabati and colloquial poetry in particular, preparing studies to verify these manuscripts after collecting them, and designing intellectual initiatives and programs that stimulate young researchers and urge them to explore new dimensions to provide the poetic scene with spaces that consolidate societal values, stressing the universality of thought and human heritage as an expanding humanitarian incubator. For everyone and a sustainable source from which those with entrepreneurial initiatives and ideas can draw.
It also stressed the importance of research cooperation with international universities, reputable scientific research centers and peer-reviewed scientific journals to contribute to conducting serious and objective studies of the Emirati heritage and transferring it from local to international so that it can be quoted and cited as one of the references of the literary human heritage.
The Scientific Committee stressed the specificity of Emirati Nabati poetry, as it represents a rich national identity, the sustainability of the poetic heritage, and the integrity of its transmission to future generations without impairment, stressing the importance of using digitization to serve Nabati poetry and facilitate its spread, and the necessity of designing programs and initiatives for foreign communities residing within the Emirates in order to integrate them and introduce them to the heritage. Emirati, and utilizing the Emirati heritage with all its human and cultural dimensions as a soft power that contributes to spreading the culture of tolerance and the humanitarian message of the United Arab Emirates.
Inspired by heritage
The Abu Dhabi Poetry Festival also reviewed Emirati folk arts and presented them in a distinctive way that made visitors familiarize themselves with them and learn about the types of folk arts emanating from the inspiration of Emirati heritage, with the aim of reviving it in a sustainable manner in the hearts of current and future generations.
The festival also provided a unique opportunity for visitors through an educational platform to learn about the stages of development of Arabic poetry through the “Poetry Trail” platform, which included nine stations starting from Souq Okaz, and ending with Abu Dhabi’s role in poetry and literature and the efforts made by the Festivals and Cultural and Heritage Programs Management Committee – Abu Dhabi in empowering poets.
