Peter Hines is saying goodbye to Bethesda after 24 years. Don’t look for some big story behind it. According to his explanation, he is leaving to pursue other passions and interests and to have more time to enjoy life.
Hines is one of Bethesda’s most famous characters. He was the boss Bethesda Softworks, the publishing division of the well-known company behind The Elder Scrolls and Fallout series. We could see him at press conferences. But after the release of Starfield, he recognized that it was the peak of his career and decided to change.
“It doesn’t mean goodbye by any means. My love for Bethesda and its people has never wavered, and I will never stop being a part of the incredible community we’ve built.” stated and thanked everyone in the company.

“Thank you to the hundreds and thousands of fans I’ve been able to meet and talk to over the past 24 years. Your energy, creativity and support have been a big part of my journey. I look forward to experiencing the next part of the adventure with you.”
Bethesda recognized his role in representing Bethesda to the public, which was only a small part of his work. The way he represented Bethesda was to translate into the company’s values: authenticity, integrity and passion.
“We are grateful to him for his 24 years of leadership and wish him the best in this next chapter.” added Bethesda.
In March 2021, Microsoft completed the acquisition of ZeniMax Media with Bethesda. Starfield was released on 9/6 of this year (players with the more expensive edition could play five days early), and on 9/19 it was announced that 10 million players had played the space RPG, the best start in Bethesda’s history. The game is part of Game Pass.
