Jakarta, CNBC IndonesiaThe Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf), Sandiaga Uno, responded to the actions of MotoGP racers who followed the trend of the phrase “First borrow a hundred,” while in Indonesia.

According to Sandi, the attitude of following trends that are currently viral in Indonesia is a form of adjustment for MotoGP racers so that they are easily accepted by Indonesian society.

“That’s what they adjusted. They were briefed by their teams that the phenomenon of “Borrow a hundred first,” is viral, right, and they used it very precisely so that in the end it increased the amplification rather than the achievement,” said Sandi at the Office of the Ministry of Tourism and Economy Creative (Kemenparekraf), Monday (16/10/2023).

Regarding this action, Sandi said that this contributed to the promotion of the 2023 Mandalika MotoGP so that the number of spectators for the second edition of MotoGP in Indonesia reached 450 million people from all over the world. “Therefore, don’t be surprised if there are 450 million people watching MotoGP in Mandalika all over the world and this is also added by digital media,” said Sandi.

Furthermore, Sandi revealed that following local trends is part of the strategy to increase the impact of MotoGP on the local economy. Thus, Sandi encourages people to be more creative in creating new trends.

“When I interacted, they (MotoGP racers) said that this local content was part of them enriching the impact of MotoGP on the local economy,” explained Sandi.

“That’s why we must be able to seize this opportunity, create creative content to encourage tourism and our creative economy products,” he continued.

Previously, Ducati racer, Francesco Bagnaia, followed the trend of making a humorous video “Borrow a hundred first,” via his personal Instagram account (@francescobagnaia63_).

“So that the race can run smoothly, borrow one hundred first,” wrote Bagnaia in his upload, quoted Monday (16/10/2023).

Not only Bagnaia, Aprilia racer, Maverick Vinales, also uploaded a similar humorous video. In the video in collaboration with the Instagram account @lombok.gp. “Hello Indonesia, can I borrow one hundred? Just kidding,” said Vinales while receiving Rp. 100 thousand in his video, quoted Monday (16/10/2023).

For information, Bagnaia emerged as the winner of the 2023 Mandalika Pertamina Grand Prix MotoGP by beating Vinales and Fabio Quartararo. This victory made Bagnaia successfully top the 2023 MotoGP standings with a total of 346 points.
