Twitch adds Stories to its mobile app
TwitchCon Las Vegas is scheduled to start later this week. Ahead of the festivities, Twitch announced that it will be rolling out a new Stories feature on its mobile app.
Senior Product Manager Eduardo Vignelli wrote on the Twitch blog:
“By integrating Stories into the Twitch experience, we’ve made it easier for you to reach your community directly on Twitch,” Access will roll out to eligible streamers gradually by the end of the week and on an ongoing basis as streamers meet minimum eligibility requirements.
Stories will work on Twitch just as the feature works on other social media apps. Eligible users can post photos, text messages, or clips that will disappear after 48 hours. Viewers will be able to see stories from the creators they follow in a dedicated space at the top of the app interface. Currently, Stories are only available to affiliates and partners who have streamed one in the last 30 days, with Twitch stating that it will likely expand the feature to more users over time.

According to Fennelly, Stories will make it easier for streamers to connect with their audience. Creators will be able to use their channel’s emojis and create backgrounds, while they will also be able to create stories from clips or their own custom content. Users with 30 or more subscribers (including free subscriptions) will have the ability to create subscriber-only stories. Twitch will offer analytics for stories, and viewers will also receive notifications when a creator they follow posts a new story.
The app emphasized that safety was the primary concern in rolling out stories. “Content created and shared in Stories will be subject to the same community guidelines as other content on the platform, and you can report stories that violate these standards directly within the app,” the blog said.
Stories appear to be another way for Twitch to keep eyeballs on the site longer while rolling out a feature that may help streamers solve their current audience engagement problem.
