Cyberpunk 2077 faced serious criticism at the time of its release due to numerous bugs and technical problems. Now the situation is much better, and in September the game received a major patch Update 2.0 and critically acclaimed expansion Phantom Liberty. However, in 2020, morale CD Projekt RED “considerably damaged.”
About it told Colin Walder, technical director of the studio. According to him, the circumstances became a challenge for the developers, and the most important thing was to admit the problems – the game was not what CD Projekt RED had hoped for, but the team found the strength to change everything.
Walder discussed the lessons learned from Cyberpunk 2077 – commitment to workflow changes is demonstrated by deeds, not words. For example, from the new part “The Witcher“(The Witcher: Polaris) has been creating demos and optimizing for consoles since the very beginning of development. And as the deadline approached, CD Projekt RED began to favor time shifting rather than compressing planned content.
Currently, CD Projekt RED is not only working on several games in the Witcher universe, but is also creating a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, codenamed Project Orion. The game is at the conceptual design stage, and the development, which will involve up to 500 people, is led by the game director of the Phantom Liberty add-on.
