Egyptian Minister of Health and Population Raises Hospitals’ Readiness in Response to Gaza Crisis

Egyptian Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar directed to raise the degree of readiness in hospitals, in implementation of the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi regarding the repercussions of the crisis in the Gaza Strip.

Abdel Ghaffar held a video meeting with deputy ministers and heads of crisis rooms in the governorates of Cairo, Giza, North Sinai, Suez, Ismailia, Port Said, Damietta, and Sharqia.

This came in implementation of Sisi’s directives during the National Security Council meeting, to follow up on the health system’s preparations to deal with any medical emergency after the repercussions of the events in the Gaza Strip, raise the readiness of referral hospitals in the governorates concerned, and provide all supplies, medicines and blood bags.

The official spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Population, Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, explained that the minister listened to a presentation on the axes of the action plan, which includes providing therapeutic services, whether in specialized surgeries or in the treatment of complex injuries, fractures, burns, and critical medical cases, while monitoring chronic diseases such as blood pressure, diabetes, and kidney failure. Kidney and oncology, in addition to preventive services, through monitoring and treating infectious diseases and providing the necessary vaccinations and serums for them, indicating an increase in the degree of preparedness in the hospitals of those governorates.

Abdel Ghaffar said that the Minister was assured of the availability of a sufficient stock of medicines and medical supplies, oxygen cylinders, blood bags and plasma. He was also assured of the readiness of hospitals with manpower in all specialties, and coordination with university hospitals in the event of need for support from medical staff.

The spokesman added that the Minister directed that the pre-equipped hospital be placed on standby, and that it be equipped with all equipment and supplies, so that it would act as a focal point from the site of the events, through which cases would be sorted and directed to referral hospitals, according to the nature of the case, in addition to providing emergency medical services, adding that The plan includes deploying a number of mobile clinics to deal with some medical cases and relieve pressure on referral hospitals.

He pointed out that the minister also listened to a presentation on the ambulance service’s plan to deal with any medical developments due to the repercussions of the events in the Gaza Strip.
