The musicians David Bergmüller and Tim Allhoff have recorded albums for everyone who needs a breather.

What does the silence sound like? She doesn’t sound at all. It’s quiet. Or? “In complete silence you can hear the whole world,” wrote Kurt Tucholsky in 1927. The idea that the silence between the notes is just as important as the notes themselves was foisted on a wide range of composers such as Mozart and Debussy. Or that the silence between the notes first make up the music. One thing is certain: The “Sound of Silence” (Simon & Garfunkel) has repeatedly concerned poets, writers and musicians: What goes on inside oneself when it is really (almost) quiet? Two albums from very different artists were recently released that further explore the topic.
