Moscow. October 16. INTERFAX.RU – Israel and the United States are discussing a possible visit by American President Joe Biden this week, reports Axios, citing people with knowledge of the matter.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu invited Biden to visit the country in a phone call on Saturday, Israeli officials said.
An American official told the portal that Biden’s visit is being considered, but a decision has not yet been made.
In turn, White House National Security Council spokeswoman Adrienne Watson told Axios: “We do not have any new travel to announce.”
Meanwhile, an Egyptian official told the portal that Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi is organizing an international conference on the war in Gaza later this week, and Biden has been invited to it.
Earlier, the Egyptian President said that Israel’s response to the Gaza Strip after the attack by the radical Palestinian movement Hamas goes beyond self-defense.
According to the Egyptian leader, Israel’s actions in Gaza amount to “collective punishment.” Al-Sisi also sharply criticized violence against civilians.
