Energy company Enefit has rapidly increased its portfolio of household customers in the household segment this year, which already reaches 100,000 customers and is developing new services. The company’s turnover in the first nine months reached 140 million euros, while EBITDA, or profit before interest, taxes and depreciation, was 2.1 million euros in this period. The focus of the company’s future development is the offer of electricity storage solutions or batteries for both households and companies, as well as the creation of an electric car charging network.
The increase in the number of customers by 56% in less than a year and the successful financial results were achieved by effectively implementing the company’s strategy – rapidly increasing the number of wind and solar power plants in the Baltics, as well as actively developing new products and services. Energy storage solutions are gaining more and more interest.
Currently, households are offered batteries with a capacity of 5 to 15 kWh for electricity storage. The next step is to offer Latvian companies high-capacity energy storage solutions with a capacity of two megawatts or more. These solutions will be able to be used both for the accumulation of surpluses of produced energy, and will also create an opportunity for customers to engage in the provision of energy system balancing services. By participating in the electricity market in this way, battery owners will be able to receive additional income from the provision of the balancing service.
According to the head of Enefit, Krists Mertens, in the next period, Enefit will continue to expand its core business in the segments of private individuals and legal clients, in accordance with the company’s strategic goals, while also developing and introducing new energy products and services. Among them are both the active implementation of electricity storage technologies and the development of smart solutions with the aim of promoting further growth of the number of active users and involvement in the electricity market. Active work is also underway on the creation of large solar panel parks with the aim of strengthening the competitiveness of energy-intensive Latvian companies. Work continues on the creation of public charging infrastructure for electric cars throughout the country, i.e. see by attracting co-financing from European funds, within the framework of which contracts have already been concluded this year for the construction of seven new fast charging points on major roads in Latvia.
The creation of solar energy parks is relevant in the business segment this year, where Enefit will soon put into operation one of the largest solar energy parks in Latvia for the company’s self-consumption with a total capacity of 4.5MW. The solar park complex for the Gaižēni agricultural company in the Bauskas and Cēsu districts has also just been completed with a total solar park capacity of almost 1MW.
“The company’s ability to quickly respond to changing market conditions, successfully adapting to changes in demand and increasing operational efficiency have been the basis for the achieved result. Looking ahead, I predict that the competition in the electricity market will continue to grow and the fight to attract customers will only become stronger. At the same time, the already implemented measures to improve the company’s performance allow us to be sure that stable growth will continue in the coming periods as well,” says K. Mertens.
