American singer Kelly Clarkson talks about the time she rejected American artist Mariah Carey’s proposal. The 41-year-old artist told the story of a very embarrassing exchange between her and Mariah, and also explained that she never meant to offend the “All I Want For Christmas Is You” singer.
“She knows I adore her, because I’ve met her a few times, and she’s probably put me on a wish list to keep me away,” Kelly said. She admitted that she “did something stupid.”
“She came on The Voice, and we were working together, and sometimes I would say whatever was on my mind, and I shouldn’t be doing it,” Kelly recalls. (Maria appeared on the show in 2018 as a consultant.)
When Mariah casually suggested they write a song together, Kelly turned her down. “I walked away, and my friends were like, ‘Do you realize you just told Mariah Carey ‘no?'” she said.
“That’s not what I meant,” Kelly explained. “I meant that the best writing for me doesn’t come in this scenario. I’m usually alone. Every time you see my name on a song, I’ve usually written it alone.”
“I love you, Mariah Carey,” she confirmed.
