Pro-Palestine March in Amsterdam: Standing up for Justice and Rights of Palestinians

A pro-Palestine march will take place in the center of Amsterdam on Sunday in response to the events in Israel and Gaza. The march starts at 2 p.m. on Dam Square and the participants then walk through the center in the direction of the Westerpark. Present at the march are representatives of the Palestine Services and Research Center Foundation (DocP), the Plant an Olive Tree Foundation and the Euro-Mediterranean Center Migration & Development (EMCEMO), among others.

The march is organized to “stand up for justice for the Palestinians,” Plant an Olive Tree said. “We just want them to be seen as people. The demonstration is about their humanity and their rights.”

“Our demonstration is aimed against the reprehensible policies of the far-right Israeli government, but not against Jews. Anti-Semitic hate speech is also a violation of human rights,” emphasizes the Euro-Mediterranean Center for Migration & Development (EMCEMO). “On Sunday we demonstrate for the freedom and rights of the Palestinians.”

The march would first end on the Jonas Daniel Meijerplein, the center of the old Jewish neighborhood. After consultation with the police and the municipality, it has now been decided that the march will end in the Westerpark. The municipality found the Jonas Daniel Meijerplein undesirable as an end point, also because of the Amsterdam marathon that takes place in the capital on Sunday.

There will also be a meeting in East Amsterdam on Sunday afternoon to reflect on the violence in Israel and the Gaza Strip, organized by the Assadaaka Community Foundation. It has been organizing walk-in consultations all week for people who are concerned about the situation.

“We see the images, we hear the stories, through friends, acquaintances, family in the area and through the media. This crisis continues, while many civilians become victims of this war and this injustice, for everyone affected by it “In times of crisis we are not alone and we will not allow division to exist,” the foundation said. People are welcome at the foundation on Polderweg between 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM.
