High Riau Malaria Cases in Rohil Regency: Statistics and Trends

PEKANBARU, SIJORITODAY.COM – The Riau provincial Health Service noted that most malaria cases in Riau were found in Rokan Hilir (Rohil) Regency.

The findings of malaria cases in Rohil reached 95 percent of the total malaria cases in Riau.

Head of the Riau Health Service, Zainal Arifin, explained that in 2022 the total number of malaria cases in Riau will reach 1,811 cases.

Of this number, 1,717 cases of malaria were found in Rohil. Then the rest is spread across several other districts/cities.

“95 percent of malaria cases in Riau are found in Rohil Regency, specifically in Panipahan District. “The rest are spread across several other districts/cities,” he said, Saturday (14/10/2023).

He also said that there were four cases of malaria found in other areas, such as Kuansing, one case in Indragiri Hulu, two cases in Pelalawan, seven cases in Kampar, three cases in Bengkalis, one case in the Meranti Islands, 68 cases in Pekanbaru and eight cases in Dumai.

“Until May 2023, the number of malaria cases in Rohil has reached 300 cases. “Kuansing has one case, Indragiri Hulu has one case, Indragiri Hilir has four cases, Bengkalis has one case and Pekanbaru has 10 cases,” he said.

Zainal further explained that the trend of malaria cases in Riau from 2018-2020 tended to increase, then in 2021 it decreased and increased again in 2022. Where in 2018 there were 74 cases of malaria found in Riau.

“In 2019 137 cases were found, in 2020 1,740 cases, in 2021 897 cases were found, in 2022 1,811 cases were found and in 2023 until May there were 317 cases,” explained Zainal.

For your information, malaria is a contagious infectious disease that can spread through the bite of female Anopheles mosquitoes. Almost the same as the symptoms of dengue fever, malaria is generally characterized by fever and chills for several days.

Malaria can be cured with proper treatment, and if not treated properly, this disease can cause several complications and even death.
