In the unprecedentedly competitive SUV market, the new Toyota C-HR has a radical effect: it looks different from traditional cars. Especially with distinctive and sharp shapes, more reminiscent of a modern sports coupe.
The biggest star of the Toyota roadshow, which is traveling these weeks in Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia, is the new generation C-HR.
The previous one already helped change the perception of Toyota in the eyes of European customers, who began to attribute a strong emotional dimension to this brand. The car met with a significant response, with over half of customers stating that the deciding factor in buying the car was its stylistic rendering. The C-HR model has gradually become Toyota’s most successful car in attracting customers switching from other brands.
The new generation Toyota C-HR takes the quality and status of its predecessor to an even higher level, through avant-garde looks, advanced technologies and a range of electrified hybrid and plug-in hybrid drives with higher performance, even better driving behavior and a longer purely electric range.
In addition, it confirms Toyota’s commitment to the European market: the new model was designed in Europe, taking into account the needs of European customers, and is also manufactured exclusively in Europe, including the assembly of high-voltage batteries. This is the turning point.
Tailor-made benefit
And inside? The C-HR uses a new fully digital 12.3″ instrument panel, depending on the trim line.
A digital key system will also be available for the car next year, where the user only needs to have his phone with him to open and start the vehicle.
The diffuse lighting system in the cabin then includes 64 color shades and introduces the option of direct and indirect interior lighting to create the desired atmosphere in the cabin – cooler or warmer
The owner will also be able to use a mobile app to remotely control the vehicle’s functions, including the air conditioning to heat or cool the cabin before driving off.
I will choose the turn myself
The latest portfolio of active safety systems and driving support functions is standard on all new Toyota C-HR equipment. Thanks to an even greater range of functions, the car protects against other risks of the most common accidents.
Key innovations include a new acceleration suppression function that reduces the risk of pressing the accelerator pedal if there is another vehicle ahead in the direction of travel.
Also new is the proactive driver assistant, which ensures smooth deceleration at low speeds in situations where the driver releases the gas pedal while approaching a slower vehicle or entering a corner.
In addition, there is a steering assistant that recognizes a turn in the direction of travel and adjusts the steering resistance so that the driver intuitively turns the steering wheel at the right angle to drive through the turn stably.
No need for an aperture
Weight reduction was helped by measures including new types of high-strength steel. The fixed panoramic sunroof features an anti-overheat coating that reflects infrared radiation and suppresses radiant heat on sunny days, while helping to keep the cabin warm in cold weather.
Thanks to this, a classic sun visor is not needed, saving five kilograms and at the same time increasing headroom. In addition, there is no need to use air conditioning as much.
Four drives
The new Toyota C-HR comes with four different powertrains. The offer includes hybrids 1.8 and 2.0, plug-in 2.0. The more powerful hybrid is also available with intelligent all-wheel drive.
The weaker Hybrid 140, which is also used in the new Corolla model range, is primarily focused on economy of operation, yet it offers significantly higher performance than the previous C-HR.
The Plug-in Hybrid 220 with its best-in-class system impresses with a dual character: it provides supreme all-electric driving in everyday use, as well as a very economical hybrid electric drive on longer routes.
All-wheel drive for the Hybrid 200 adds better traction and stability when starting, cornering or on slippery surfaces, when the compact electric motor/generator, built into the rear axle of the car, comes into play.
Live response
Designers took into account all aspects of driving dynamics to achieve improvements, building on the existing model’s established reputation, which customers loved for its agility and nimbleness.
The new powertrains have been calibrated to provide intuitive acceleration and handling, including better matching of the vehicle’s response to accelerator pedal inputs.
The changes also include the car’s suspension system, brakes and steering to ideally balance the vehicle’s stance and driving comfort.
Roadshow: The line goes all the way to Mikuláš
At the end of September, Toyota started a roadshow around its dealerships. It has twenty-one stops in Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia. It presents all four types of alternative drives that it currently offers. In addition to the Czech premiere of the new Toyota C-HR representing a fully hybrid drive, the new Prius is showing a demonstration of plug-in hybrid technology. The battery electric car is represented by the Toyota bZ4X and the hydrogen electric car by the Mirai model. “During the roadshow, people learn about individual drives and technologies. Just like last year, salespeople and trained staff will be at hand this year, as well as touch information boards explaining the individual technologies in detail.” says Michal Velička, marketing manager of Toyota CR. With the exception of the new generation C-HR, all the mentioned models are available not only for viewing, but also for test drives, along with all other cars in the brand’s current offer. For example, those interested can try the fifth generation hybrid drive in the Corolla and Corolla Cross models.
You know that…
… this is already the second year of Toyota’s autumn roadshow, last year it was visited by thousands of people all over the Czech Republic. All information about the roadshow can be found on the website https://www.toyota.cz/roadshow.
