Santiago Tomás Mazzini, the Afip lawyer who in 2021 and after a traffic argument ran over his truck and caused the death of an airplane pilot who was traveling on a motorcycle in the Buenos Aires district of Vicente López, and who was a fugitive for three months Before being arrested, he ended up convicted of “culpable homicide” in an abbreviated trial, to a sentence of 4 years in prison that he is currently serving under house arrest.
Judicial sources informed Télam today that the ruling that approved the agreement between the parties was signed by Judge Verónica Di Tomasso, of the Oral Criminal Court (TOC) 3 of San Isidro.
Although at some point the prosecution had charged him with “simple homicide with possible intent” (a crime with a penalty of up to 25 years in prison), in the sentencing Mazzini, 39 years old, was found criminally responsible for “wrongful homicide.” (that is, without intention) of Julián Gustavo Giménez, 26, who was a pilot for Aerolíneas Argentinas.
The judge sentenced the lawyer to four years in prison – one less than the maximum sentence for this crime – and eight years of disqualification from driving motor vehicles. But, for now, Mazzini will not go to serve his sentence in a prison, because the magistrate ordered that, at least until the sentence becomes final, he will continue with the house arrest regime with electronic anklet that he has enjoyed since October 2022.
