No other federal state has as many zoos as North Rhine-Westphalia. That’s why the competition is fierce and visitors are spoiled for choice in a relatively small space. But a new ranking could now help you make your decision.
The travel portal “Holidu” took a closer look at 25 zoos and animal parks and one zoo from North Rhine-Westphalia was particularly impressive. However, it wasn’t the largest zoo or the zoo with the most animals that ended up at the top.
Where is the best zoo in NRW?
The portal took the following categories into account for the evaluation: admission price, biodiversity, public reviews and culinary offerings. There were extra points for special offers such as aquariums or petting zoos. The frontrunner was the Wilhelma Stuttgart, which, according to the experts, offers the best all-round offer.
The Green Zoo Wuppertal didn’t quite make it onto the podium, but at least just behind it. “The Wuppertal Zoo impresses with its unique location. Located on a green hillside, it not only offers visitors an impressive variety of animals, but also breathtaking views of the city,” according to the expert opinion. The zoo is also particularly child-friendly in terms of price. Parents only pay 1.70 euros per child and a bratwurst with fries is available for 6.20 euros. However, the zoo in Wuppertal is not the cheapest. Another zoo in North Rhine-Westphalia has entry prices that are lower than any other (more on that here).
Even more news:
The largest zoo in all of North Rhine-Westphalia is the Cologne Zoo in the north of the city with around 10,000 animals and 780 species. He also made it into the top ten with 7th place. The Duisburg Zoo (11th place), the Münster All-Weather Zoo (14th), the Dortmund Zoo (20th) and the Krefeld Zoo (22nd) are behind them. The largest zoo in North Rhine-Westphalia, Zoom Gelsenkirchen, is not included in the ranking at all. It is not known why this zoo was ignored.
