Hamas recently raided central and southern Israel and massacred more than 1,300 people, the vast majority of whom were civilians. The Military Rabbinate, who is responsible for receiving and identifying the remains, admitted that “the number of children is quite alarming” and because there are too many remains, incomplete and lack of identification methods, “it will be impossible to identify them after a while.”

Josh Wander, spokesman for Zaka, a burial organization that assists “rabbis,” told the Times of Israel that volunteers and the military face severe challenges in identifying child victims. Children do not have passports, documents, etc. as adults. It is easy to obtain information from the body. If the body is dismembered or damaged to the point where fingerprints cannot be collected, DNA identification is required, but this is a long and uncertain process for the family members.

The Israel Defense Forces stated that of the 854 civilian remains that have arrived in “Rabi”, 361 have been identified and 264 have been buried. The other 257 soldiers have been identified through fingerprints, teeth and military tags. The National Defense Forces also pointed out that many of the soldiers killed were killed after get off work or during music festivals. The police and intelligence agencies also announced that 48 policemen and 10 Shin Bet soldiers were killed, but it is unclear whether these 58 people are counted among civilians.

According to Palestinian statistics, the Israeli army has killed 1,500 people in Gaza in retaliation for this “Israeli version of 911”. However, senior leaders of Hamas, who launched the massacre of Israeli civilians, are still calling on Muslims to fight against Israel abroad. Hamas officials also ask Gaza residents to stay at home and not to believe the air-dropped leaflets issued by Israel for a time-limited evacuation. The Gaza people’s only hope of escape, surrounded by Israeli forces on three sides, was shattered by Egypt’s “Palestinians should stay in Palestine” and the border closure.
