In the Czech Republic, we allowed one very unpleasant thing. We let many traditional manufacturing companies, including in the food sector, fall into foreign hands. At the same time, a similar thing is completely unthinkable in most countries, because there, in short, the key companies own domestic capital.
It turned out badly
However, in the nineties of the last century, for some reason, the idea spread in the Czech Republic that in order for Czech companies to prosper, they must fall to foreign owners. Thanks to this, today we have a completely sold-out country, where large enterprises owned by local entrepreneurs are created only slowly and complexly.
The truth is that some privatization stories have more than succeeded. Few people today would complain, for example, that Škodovka in Mladá Boleslav was taken over by the Volkswagen concern. When this happened, the car company was in bad shape and the German owner turned it into a top company.
Unfortunately, there have not been many such successes elsewhere. On the contrary, perhaps it would be possible to find more cases where, in the end, it did not turn out well for Czech companies. The trend is currently to close them down and transfer valuable brands elsewhere.
Food companies are the champions in this. You probably know that, for example, legendary confections taste completely different today than they did years ago. The recipe has changed and often the manufacturing plant as well. Now this is exactly what is happening in the case of the traditional company Znojmia.

Suddenly it all ends
In 2015, it was acquired by the international holding company Orkla, which showed the greatest interest in it at the time, and thus also got it. It was considered that it would continue to support the production of pickles at its two plants, as there was no reason for it not to do so. It also owns other brands on the Czech market, such as Vitana, Májka, Hamé or Otma.
But a few years have passed and everything is different. The production of Znojmia cucumbers in the Czech Republic is ending and both production plants are closing. All employees in Bzenec in Hodonínsk and in Panenské Břežany will be dismissed. There are approximately 250 of them.

You will still be able to buy Znojmia cucumbers in stores, but it will be a different product, imported from somewhere. In short, only the brand will remain, not tradition and quality.
At the same time, few people realize what we are losing. All it took was the decision of a manager abroad and the Czech Republic suddenly lost the traditional production of Znojmo cucumbers. Do you think this is correct?
