Humanitarian headquarters “Restorer. This is not the first time that the Potato Army organizes actions at the matches of the national team. Performances took place at Wembley, the Westfalenstadion and the Wroclaw Arena.
This time in Prague, volunteers Dmitry Dubas and Nikolay Vasilkov organized an action called “54” – that’s how many years passed from the Soviet Union’s invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968 until the start of the war between Russia and Ukraine in 2022.
Mykola Vasilkov:
“Our goal is to raise funds for turnstiles for attack aircraft in the Tokmak direction. To do this, we organized a match between Czech Republic and Ukraine veterans right on the field of the NH Hotel, where our team lives in Prague. Rebrov was able to meet with his West Ham teammate Tomas Rzebka, Alexander Khatskevich with his UPL opponent Tomas Hubschman, Andrei Voronin with his Bundesliga acquaintance Jan Kohler.”
Karel Poborzhski, Rustam Khudzhamov, Antonin Panenka, Alexander Zavarov, Horst Siegl and others also took part in the game. The match score is a draw 5:5.
Dmitry Dubas:
“After the whistle, Kohler came up to me and said on behalf of all the players that it was an honor for them to help Ukraine and asked me to exchange T-shirts. For the first time in my life, out of excitement, I couldn’t find the words to answer.”
During the game Ukraine-P. Macedonia “Potato Troops” in the stands of the Generali Arena stadium are planning to hold a flash mob when, in the 54th minute of the game, fans will raise the numbers “54” above their heads as a sign of solidarity between the Czech and Ukrainian peoples in this difficult historical time.
