115 People Infected with HIV/AIDS in Pekanbaru City: Urgent Call for Action

Pekanbaru, (ANTARA) – The Pekanbaru City Health Service, Riau Province, reported that 115 people were infected with HIV/AIDS from January to May 2023, with details of 74 HIV cases and 41 AIDS cases respectively.

Head of the Pekanbaru Health Office who is also the Chief Executive of the Pekanbaru City AIDS Prevention Commission (KPA), Zaini Rizaldy, said that HIV/AIDs cases in the city were getting more serious and needed to be addressed.

“All of our attention to the COVID-19 pandemic in recent years must not forget about the HIV and AIDS epidemic,” said Zaini Rizaldi in Pekanbaru, Saturday.

Zaini said that the spread of HIV/AIDS still requires attention and the role of various parties to reduce the increase in cases. “Because this is a shared responsibility for both sufferers, families, government, community leaders and religious leaders,” he said.

He said each party could play a role in accordance with its main duties and functions, including the wider community. Work units within the Pekanbaru City Government can also play a role within their respective scopes of work.

“The AIDS Prevention Commission, in accordance with its main tasks and functions, will continue to coordinate with all parties, including the business world,” he said.

The Pekanbaru City Government, he said, through the Health Office, has provided health services for AIDS prevention, including treatment both in hospitals and community health centers.
