Actor Michael Caine has confirmed he is retiring. His new film, The Great Escapermarks his farewell to the silver screen.
Ninety-year-old Caine hinted a month ago that he would quit acting. But on Friday he confirmed it in one BBCprogram: “I already said I was going to retire, now I really am.”
Caine’s career spans more than seven decades. He has a wardrobe full of awards, including two Oscars, a BAFTA, three Golden Globes and a SAG Award. His films have grossed more than 7.5 billion euros.
In the 1960s Caine broke through with roles in classics such as The Italian Job, The Battle of Britain in A Bridge Too Farabout the battle around Arnhem in the autumn of 1944.
The British actor became known to a younger audience in recent years thanks to roles in films such as Miss Congeniality, Austin Powers 3: Goldmember and the Batmantrilogy from director Christopher Nolan.
