– The current Polish government led by Mateusz Morawiecki is Hungary’s most important European ally. At the same time, his opposition would prefer better relations with Brussels instead of Central European cooperation, so a change of government would be disadvantageous for both the Visegrád group and the Hungarian interest representation. The new mandate of Law and Justice (PiS), on the other hand, would strengthen our country’s EU negotiating position and would also enable the continuation of the joint fight against migration – stated Hungarian Nationto Levente Szikra, the lead analyst of the Center for Fundamental Rights, in connection with the Polish parliamentary elections scheduled for Sunday.
The last polls before the election predict a close fight, but they indicate that PiS may emerge as the winner: the support of the conservative party stands at 33 percent, followed by the Civil Alliance with 31 percent. Despite the favorable forecasts, however, it is far from certain that PiS will obtain a governmental majority in the parliament.
– If none of the main forces obtains an absolute majority on their own, a coalition will be necessary, so the result of the smaller parties in the election is of great importance – Levente Szikra explained.
