India is making significant progress in robotics and aims to become a global “robotics hub”, Union Minister of State for Electronics and IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar has said. The country has released a draft national strategy on robotics, seeking input from start-ups, manufacturing companies and the Industry 4.0 sector. The aim is to advance India’s global leadership in robotics by identifying strategic sectors such as manufacturing, agriculture, healthcare and national security.
Advances in artificial intelligence (AI) are expected to significantly impact cyber-physical systems (CPS) such as robotics. Both the public and private sectors recognize the importance of robotic automation in delivering social, economic and technical outcomes in the future.
To enable India to become a global leader in robotics, the project proposes to create a Robotics Innovation Unit (RIU) as part of the National Robotics Strategy. Comprehensive and effective implementation of this strategy will be done as “National Robotics Mission”.
Feedback on the draft national strategy in the field of robotics can be submitted on the MyGov platform until October 31. This initiative is in line with India’s strategic AI planning and stakeholders in the robotics and AI ecosystem are invited to contribute to the success of the policy.
India’s efforts in robotics can open up significant opportunities for manufacturing, Industry 4.0 and integration of cyber-physical systems. The national strategy aims to capitalize on these opportunities and position India as a leading player in the global robotics industry.
