It was Thursday morning that Swedish police received a report that a bear had been shot in Vilhelmina in Västerbotten, about 20 miles south of Arjeplog.
The bear must have been shot in an emergency, claimed the hunter – who was originally looking for moose – in questioning with the police who came to the scene.
As a matter of routine, the police created a report on serious hunting offences. The bear has been seized, the police say.
The bear hunt in Västerbotten was canceled on 2 October after 92 bears were killed in the county.
A few weeks ago, a bear was also shot by an elk hunter in Boden in Norrbotten. He too claimed emergency guardianship.
Here, too, the hunter was reported and the weapon was seized.
The hunting season for bears runs from 21 August to 15 October, or until the number of bears taken has been reported.
