The New York Yankees must make a plan to restructure their roster for 2024, taking into account the poor results of this past season, in which they were unable to reach the postseason despite the expectations that existed with the franchise.
The Yankees will be leaving some players who came to play an important role in previous seasons and who surely have a place in the hearts of the fans. One of them is catcher Kyle Higashioka, who will likely leave the club, according to SNY’s Phillip Martinez.
“Higashioka has been a fixture as a Yankees catcher, whether as a starter or backup, for seven seasons,” said journalist Martínez. “But with the emergence of Austin Wells, the 33-year-old may be out of a job.”
The reporter who covers the Yankees also added that if José Treviño recovers from an injury he will be Gerrit Cole’s personal catcher. Wells would be the starter for the rest of the games and Higashioka would be out of the club’s plans.
Higashioka spent 10 years in the minor leagues before making the big jump to the MLB in 2017. Injuries have limited his performance and everything seems to indicate that the organization will make major changes to its roster for 2024.
