Unidentified, the person burned in an accident in Guatemala, according to the Cuban embassy

The only fatal victim of a serious traffic accident that occurred this Thursday in Guatemala has not been officially identified yet. The charred body could belong to the driver of the vehicle that ended up burning after overturning on the stretch between Tecún Umán and Ocos, in San Marcos, or to one of the 20 Cuban migrants who were in it.

The Cuban Embassy in Guatemala indicated to 14 intervene that until they have official information, “a passport or documents that certify that they are Cuban,” they cannot issue a position. “We have been in contact with the authorities,” but they said they had no confirmation about the identity of the victim, although a media outlet has said that the deceased is Cuban “without being sure of knowing his nationality.”

“There is no reliable information to date that tells us that the people are Cuban,” he insisted. The same way, Free Press there was published this Tuesday: “It is unknown if he is Guatemalan or one of the migrants.”

The Guatemalan Red Cross, which treated the injured at the scene of the accident, reported through its social networks that it “stabilized and transferred” four of them, without giving their names, to the Malacatán National Hospital, where they still remained. Friday.

Although a worker at the hospital center refused to give this newspaper the names of the injured, claiming that “it is only given to relatives who show up at the hospital,” local media Unired Canal 21 – which claimed that a Cuban migrant died – offered a list of the rescued migrants. Among them are two children, Lian Cruz Mora, three years old, and Mía Abreu, six years old. The rest are: Lisey Mora (23 years old), Yara Sarís (43 years old), Julio Porto (57 years old), Anabel Rodríguez (36 years old), Floralma Rey (33 years old), Miguel Rivera (36 years old), Gabriela? Alemán (19), José Rodríguez (54), Reynaldo Galván (31), Lili Abreu (36) and Suleidy Blanco (27).

This hospital was reported on the same day of the accident by some Facebook users, who claimed that the driver and a co-pilot of one of the ambulances they sent with plates I981BBG, had charged each of the migrants $25 to bring them closer to the border with Mexico.

The center itself issued a statement ensuring that assistance was given to “a lady with several children who were asking for help because they were dehydrated.”

Guatemala is a natural passage for thousands of migrants seeking to reach US territory. Migration also recorded the receipt of 235 requests for refuge from natives of the Island, still below Honduras (1,352), El Salvador (1,264), Nicaragua (839) and Venezuela (369).

According to official figures, from January 1 to August 31, 1,453 irregular migrants, of them 45 Cubans, have been expelled from Guatemalan territory.
