SHANGHAI (AP) — Learning from his loss to the same opponent last month, seventh-ranked Andrey Rublev got his revenge Friday and claimed a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Ugo Humbert in the Masters quarterfinals from Shanghai.
Rublev, the tournament’s top-ranked player, never looked under pressure during the 91-minute victory, although he let slip a break advantage during the second set. The Russian player recovered to win the last four matches and advance to his sixth Masters semi-final where he will face Grigor Dimitrov.
Rublev improved to 3-2 against Humbert and said his loss to the Frenchman two weeks ago at the China Open helped him win this time.
“In the match in Beijing we both played good tennis and I had chances. I was serving for the match. He was playing very well that match and I tried to analyze what I did wrong that match,” Rublev said. “I tried not to make the same mistakes today and I did very well.”

Dimitrov, who beat second-ranked Carlos Alcaraz in the fourth round, beat Nicolas Jarry 7-6 (2), 6-4.
Dimitrov, 18th, was in impressive form again and held off the Chilean’s surging serve to advance to the last four in Shanghai for the first time. The Bulgarian made only three unforced errors and lost only four points on his first serve.
“I think a lot of things were going in the right direction today,” Dimitrov said. “For me, he is one of the best servers around. I’ve faced him several times and I feel like each time it gets harder and harder to come back against him. In the most important moments, I was able to just be solid, nothing else.”
Jarry was playing his first Masters quarter-final.
