A man attacked several people with a knife at a high school in northern France. A teacher died and the attacker is in custody.
The incident occurred around 11am on Friday, October 13th. According to initial reports from BFMTV, the man is said to have shouted “Allahu akhbar” during the attack at the Gambetta school in Arras, northern France. A teacher was killed and two other people were seriously injured.
All schools closed
The attacker was arrested by the police. He is said to be of Chechen origin, a former student and already known to the authorities due to radicalization, reports “Le Parisien”. The alleged perpetrator’s brother was also arrested. The national anti-terrorism prosecutor’s office has taken over the investigation.
All schools in the city were closed. While police forces are on high alert, Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin and President Emmanuel Macron are expected on site.
