Dresden Successfully Fends Off Cyber Attack on City Administration Website

Dresden.

The Saxon state capital Dresden says it has fended off a cyber attack. During the attack on Thursday morning, access to the city administration’s website was severely restricted, a spokeswoman said. Dresden.de was ultimately disconnected from the Internet as a precautionary measure. “All security measures to ward off the attack and prevent the damage from spreading were effective,” explained the head of the state capital Dresden’s IT operations, Michael Breidung. As of 3:30 p.m., all systems were fully available again.

According to the information, it was a so-called distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack, in which so many accesses to the attacked systems were organized at the same time that they no longer responded or could be manipulated from outside. (dpa)
