A careless hug with a female fan could be soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo’s downfall. According to the Iranian portal “Sharq Emroz”, the Iranian judiciary has apparently imposed a sentence of 99 lashes on the Portuguese for adultery.

What happened? In September, Ronaldo played with his Saudi club Al-Nassr in the Asian Champions League against Iranian top club Persepolis. Ronaldo, who is also very popular in Iran, met with an Iranian painter before the game who wanted to give him a picture of him. As a thank you, the 38-year-old hugged the physically disabled woman.
The actually nice gesture, of which there is a video on social networks, can be viewed as adultery in strictly Islamic Iran. Several Iranian lawyers are said to have reported Ronaldo because of this.
