Abu Dhabi, October 13, 2017 – Dr. Shashi Tharoor, Member of the Indian Parliament, confirmed that the UAE’s hosting of the 19th session of the World Archives Congress contributed effectively to the success of the activities of this session and enabled it to achieve the planned goals, especially in light of what its participants enjoyed. The care, attention, and facilities provided for congressional activities facilitated the task of the participants and provided them with the ideal environment for exchanging ideas, knowledge, and experiences.
He said in a statement to the Emirates News Agency, WAM, that the gathering of archivists and historical manuscripts from all over the world in this event is extremely important, because it allowed them to exchange their archival experiences, ideas, aspirations and expertise in order to provide access to applying best practices and using the latest and most advanced technologies. Development in the preservation of various documents, manuscripts, heritage and archival materials, as they are an important part of the national memory of different countries of the world.
He pointed out that the World Archives Congress discussed, among its topics, important topics, including sustainability and technology, expressing his happiness to participate in this important event that was held under the slogan “Enriching Knowledge Societies,” a slogan that confirms the pivotal role that the archive plays in disseminating and developing knowledge. Preserving and transmitting it from one generation to another, especially since building knowledge is a continuous cumulative process over time.
He thanked the United Arab Emirates and the event’s organizing committee for what the state provided and the efforts made by the committee to make this session a success, which is the largest in the history of Congress, and for providing the opportunity for participants to discuss the challenges facing those working in the field of archiving, heritage preservation, and guardians of knowledge, and to reach solutions that overcome them. All obstacles in front of them and facilitates them to perform their role to the fullest extent, and contributes to the development of archival work and ways and means of preserving information and facilitates the process of accessing it.
