Anouk would have liked to perform a song from her new album Deena & Jim want to go to the Eurovision Song Contest. But the singer, who gave the Netherlands a top 10 ranking in 2013, was unable to postpone the release of her album.
“I proposed it to the selection committee,” Anouk tells NU.nl. “I think this record is so crazy and so great. I didn’t plan on ever doing the Eurovision Song Contest again, but with this music I wanted to.”
Ultimately, the schedules of the singer and the committee did not match. “They have received a lot of entries this year and of course I cannot follow up. I understand that. The decision would not be made until sometime in December,” the singer explains.
Anouk couldn’t wait for that, because her album is scheduled for November 3. She cannot simply postpone that release if she is not sure that she will be selected. The Eurovision Song Contest entry is often only presented in March.
“I couldn’t arrive at my record company and say at the last minute: sorry, it won’t be until March. So unfortunately it didn’t happen, but it would have been a nice moment.”
Anouk was internally selected in 2013 to represent the Netherlands at the Eurovision Song Contest. She did that with the song Birds. Anouk was the first Dutch act in nine years to reach the final of the Eurovision Song Contest. The singer finished in ninth place.
