Plume de P: Dear compatriots

Are you happy to be free? My question surprises you, doesn’t it, because for you, your freedom goes without saying! Trying to understand or even know how you inherited it is completely incidental! And yet, although numerous documents relate a smooth transition to independence, this freedom was acquired with pain.

Our elders fought, shed their blood, so that we could be what we are: masters in our own country! Maybe in the long run, you think that there is no point in dwelling on it anymore, but believe me, remembering the facts of the past is good for setting the record straight.

Independence was their fight, it’s no longer our problem! Nay! We are not indebted to them, of course, but we have a duty not to forget it!

More than ever, the motto of the First Republic is current: “Freedom, Country, Progress”.

Fahafahana: allow me to say that we do not respect the part of freedom that has been offered to us and that it is threatened every day because we are not aware of the fight that we still have to wage.

Tanindrazana: We take our homeland for granted. Nourishing earth, we abuse it, despoil it to the depths of its bowels as if its reserves were inexhaustible. We burn it, expose it as if we were the only ones with the right to it and then come what may!

Fandrosoana: we went completely astray in thinking that progress was a personal matter, but not a collective quest. Ultimately, while a few individuals become immensely rich, the country becomes poorer! Yes, a country is not rich because billionaires live there, but because above all, its population eats its fill, can take care of itself, educate itself… in a word, ensure the minimum subsistence level !

Saturday, we will celebrate the advent of the first republic, it’s our holiday! May this commemoration remind us of who we are, Malagasy citizens whose responsibility it is to make Madagascar, our homeland, a free and progressing country.

Long live Madagascar!

Long live the Republic !
