Le Républicain Lorrain – Today at 6:31 p.m.
Two traffic lights, called intelligent or rewarded, have been installed on the Thionville road near Adalbert college. Always red, they automatically turn green if the speed of the detected motorist is less than 50 km per hour. They have been fully operational since October 9 and, a priori, only have advantages.
“These are the latest generation fires with very rapid reaction. They never impose a stop as long as the motorist respects the limit of 50 km per hour, the elected officials welcome. In addition, these lights can be configured according to needs.”
Secure one street per year
Mayor Armel Chabane specifies: “The approach is part of the city’s objectives of securing one high traffic or problem street per year and this time we have chosen reward lights. We made this decision following an initial experience on rue de Benting where we had locks installed.”
He elaborates: “These were not unanimous among local residents who would have preferred reward fires. In fact, these lights do not present any constraints. There is no noise for local residents, no shaking problems for motorists and they do not block garage entrances. They are in theory the best possible choice for slowing down traffic provided that the red light is respected.”
Carried out by the company Inéo, the work cost €20,000. The operation was subsidized by the department to the tune of €7,000, financed by police fines.
It can be expensive
In order to guarantee respect for the fire and discourage recklessness, the city asked the municipal police to carry out daily checks.
As a reminder, running a red light is expensive: it generates a fine of €135 and loses four points on your driving license.
