OPENING KICK
Stony Brook football returns home to close out its non-conference schedule against Fordham from the Patriot League, as the Seawolves will face the Rams for the third consecutive season overall and fifth time since 2018.
The Seawolves return home having last played at Maine two weeks ago, after last weekend’s game at Morgan State was canceled.
Fordham has taken the last two matchups, in 2021 at LaValle Stadium and in 2022 in the Bronx. Stony Brook had taken wins in 2018 and 2019, and the overall series tied 3-3.
Stony Brook will play its 16th game all-time against the Patriot League, going for its 11th win and seventh at home against Patriot League opponents.
SBU will finish the 2023 season with three of its last five games at home.
VERDICT IS IN: CASE IS ON POINT
Casey Case had a big day in just his fifth career start, putting up 348 yards and throwing for four touchdowns against Maine.
The 348 passing yards were the sixth-most in a game in Stony Brook history.
Case’s four passing touchdowns marked the most in a game since Oct. 6, 2012 against Charleston Southern. Three of the four touchdown passes came on plays of at least 30 yards.
The four touchdown passes went to three different receivers – two to Jayden Cook and one each to Cal Redman and R.J. Lamarre.
For the season, Case is averaging 205.0 yards per game, which ranks seventh in the CAA.
WIDE RECEIVERS ARE COOK-ING
Jayden Cook caught two of Casey Case’s four touchdown passes against Maine. The latter of the two came on a spectacular one-handed catch.
Cook leads SBU with three receiving touchdowns, which was tied for fourth in the CAA heading into last week.
He averages 42.0 receiving yards per game, ranking 22nd in the league.
Redshirt freshman Anthony Johnson added 88 yards against Maine, where he also marked his fourth straight game with at least a 20-yard reception.
Johnson’s 69.8 receiving yards per game are seventh in the league and his 4.8 receptions are fifth.
(STILL) CAN’T SPELL TACKLER WITHOUT KALER
After finishing with a career-high and league-high 14 tackles against Richmond in Week 4, Aidan Kaler followed up that effort with five more against Maine in Week 5.
He has 8.2 tackles per game, which ranks sixth in the league. His 28 solo tackles ranked tied for third in the league heading into last week.
In his last eight games dating back to last season, Kaler has collected at least five tackles in each of them.
He has at least 10 tackles in four different games across his career, all coming in that eight-game stretch with at least five tackles.
Kaler entered the season as SBU’s leading returning tackler, with 60.0 a season ago, which was third overall on the team behind Reidgee Dimanche (74.0) and Carthell Flowers-Lloyd (70.0).
