Sweden’s Prime Minister Holds Press Conference on Gang Crime and Government Measures

Sweden’s Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) holds a press conference on Thursday after the meeting with the National Security Council. All the party leaders in the Riksdag took part in the meeting, where gang crime in the country was discussed.

– We take this very seriously, says Kristersson to the press.

– Since 2012, 29 people, who are not part of the gang environment, have been killed. 77 have been injured. In the last 30 days, the police have prevented approximately 30 gang shootings and explosions, he says.

The government put forward several bills to speed up the fight against organized crime.

The introduction of visitor zones is brought forward by one year to March 2024. The residence ban will be introduced on 1 February, about six months earlier than planned.

Deputy Prime Minister Ebba Busch, Labor Market and Integration Minister Johan Pehrson (V) and Justice Minister Gunnar Strömmer (M) also participate in the press conference.

– We are carrying out a paradigm shift, says Busch during the press conference.

– Disappointed

Former Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson (S) expressed dissatisfaction after the meeting.

The Social Democrats are said to have put forward a proposal for a budget change, but experienced not being heard.

– It was good that we had the meeting, but I am disappointed that the government could not present any new measures, says Andersson to the Swedish press.

On the night of Thursday, another shooting episode was connected to the Foxtrot conflict, according to The Express. A father of a young child was shot and killed in a villa in the south of Stockholm. The mother and a child were taken to hospital.
