Bas de Groot appointed professor of Emergency Medicine at Aarhus University Hospital

October 12, 2023

Bas de Groot, KNMG emergency physician at Radboud university medical center, will be appointed professor of Emergency Medicine at the Research Center for Emergency Medicine at Aarhus University Hospital in Aarhus, Denmark, as of January 1, 2024. He is the first emergency physician with the title of professor in the Netherlands.

Bas de Groot investigates how doctors can better assess risks with the help of a so-called early warning score. He would like to apply this throughout the chain of emergency care, for example in the ambulance or in the ER. If doctors recognize signals better, treatment and outcomes will improve.

It is important that the scientific domain of emergency medicine is further expanded. This branch of science can answer questions that will keep acute care accessible and improve its quality in the future. Strengthening the international network is essential.

De Groot will remain 75% affiliated with Radboud University Medical Center and will further expand his scientific activities here. He will lead the research center in Denmark. The Emergency Department is proud of this appointment and wishes Bas every success with his research.
