Football stars fell victim to betting before a Juventus player
Italian Nicolo Violi, a player for the Italian team Juventus, was investigated by the Turin Public Prosecutor’s Office, on charges of betting through illegal platforms, a violation that could lead to a 3-year penalty and a fine of no less than 25 thousand euros.
According to the Sports Law of the Italian Football Federation, specifically Article 24, regardless of his role in sports, it is prohibited to engage in this type of action.
According to what was reported by the Spanish news agency “Efe” yesterday, Wednesday, the investigation into this case began a few months ago, and now there is an attempt to clarify whether the player really committed this violation, and if so, it is necessary to know what exactly he bet on.
Violi is not the first player to be involved in a betting crisis. Throughout the history of football competitions, many players have fallen into this trap, led by the former Italian star, Francesco Totti, after security opened an investigation accusing him of involvement in a money laundering and betting case.
Last January, the Spanish newspaper “Mundo Deportivo”, citing preliminary investigations by Italian security, described the financial transfers as suspicious, while it linked Totti to some of the casinos that he frequented to gamble with his money during the recent period.
Last September, the English Premier League also witnessed a betting case, in which a number of the game’s stars were involved, most notably the English striker Ivan Toney, the Brentford striker, the Brazilian Lucas Paqueta, the West Ham United player, in addition to the other Englishman, Harry Toffolo, the star of the English team Nottingham Forest.
The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) reported that the English Football Association imposed a heavy penalty on Toffolo, namely a suspended suspension from playing for a period of 5 months, and a fine of 21,000 pounds sterling.
Last May, French Toulouse defender, Danish, Rasmus Nicolaisen, was accused of betting, as the player agreed to borrow sums of money from his colleagues in order to participate in betting on the results of matches over the Internet, according to the French “RMC Sport” radio website.
In November 2022, the English Football Association brought 232 charges against Brentford striker Ivan Toney for alleged violations of betting rules in 262 violations over a period of 4 years.
The British news agency (PA Media) reported at the time that the 27-year-old striker admitted to cooperating with the English Football Association in its historic investigation into betting rules, so Brentford club announced that it suspended its striker for 8 months and imposed a fine of 50,000 pounds on him.
In December 2020, the English Football Association announced that English defender Kieran Trippier, the current Newcastle United player, would be suspended for ten weeks and fined 70,000 pounds ($94,000) for violating betting rules.
