Luc Messi Atangana, councilor of the town hall, decided to open the market to other providers.
« We are looking for competent companies, with material and financial capabilities, but also qualified personnel…. As long as we do not have businesses of a certain level, we will always believe that waste is waste, yet it is a resource which, if properly exploited, can create jobs and income. » indicated Marie Solange Mbang, director of town planning, architecture and living environment at the town hall of the city of Yaoundé.
It was during a meeting recently held between Luc Messi Atangana, Mayor of the city of Yaoundé and the mayors of the city of Yaoundé. According to the call for applications launched by the town hall official of the city of Yaoundé, the aim is to rid the Cameroonian capital of the 3,000 tonnes of household waste produced every day.
The said tender file is currently being developed and the company Hysacam et salubrité du Cameroun (Hysacam), the main private player in waste management in Cameroon, will also be able to bid, although its contract with the town hall of the city is coming up. expiring on December 31, 2023.
According to official figures, of the 3,000 tonnes of waste produced daily in the city of Yaoundé, only 1,200 tonnes are collected by the Hysacam company, following the 2019 contract. Despite the recent arrival of a new service provider (Thychlof ), the garbage collection situation has not improved much in Yaoundé.
For the record, Luc Messi Atangana decided to select garbage collection operators in the capital through competitive bidding. This was at the end of a meeting held on September 22, 2023, with the mayors of the district municipalities and stakeholders in the sector at town hall.
