Actress Jada Pinkett Smith, wife of Hollywood star Will Smith, said that she and her husband decided to separate in 2016 and since then have been “living completely separate lives.” She said this in the announcement of an NBCnews special with journalist Hoda Kotb, who asked questions about her memoir book Worthy, which will be released on October 17.
She clarified that the couple had not previously advertised their separation, since the spouses “were not ready yet” and all this time they were trying to figure out how to maintain their partnership.
“How do we present this to people? We didn’t make this up,” Pickett-Smith said.
“I think by 2016 we were both tired of trying. I think we’re both still stuck in our fantasies of what we think the other person should be like,” she said.
The actress added that she once made a promise to herself that she would never have reasons for divorce with Smith, and simply could not break it.
Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith got married in 1997. The couple has two children together. Moreover, it was precisely in recent years that their couple attracted attention. In July 2020, the singer August Alsina stated that he had a romantic relationship with Smith’s wife, which she later confirmed during a joint interview given by the actors. At the 2022 Oscars, the presenter Chris Rock made a tactless joke about Pinkett Smith being bald. The actress suffers from alopecia. After which Will Smith rushed onto the stage and hit the host of the ceremony. Moreover, Pinkett Smith herself initially considered this episode to be comedic. It was only when Will Smith returned to his chair that she realized that this was not a joke. After this incident, Will Smith was banned from attending the Oscars and other Academy events for 10 years.
