Süleyman Öztürk thinks that Ajax would currently occupy second place in the Eredivisie with Ange Postecoglou as coach. The 58-year-old Australian has made a big impression this season with Tottenham Hotspur, which is the leader of the Premier League with twenty points from ten games.
While Ajax picked up Maurice Steijn from Sparta Rotterdam last summer, Postecoglou was taken away from Celtic by Tottenham Hotspur. “He was scouted ten years too late. He was already a good trainer ten years ago, but he is from Australia and talks a bit strangely,” said Öztürk in a video item from Football International.

As a player, Postecoglou was certainly not a high flyer. He played his entire career for South Melbourne and made four appearances for the Australian national team. “He doesn’t really have a football background, so we can’t take him seriously, many clubs must have thought. He has not played 130 international matches, but he is a very good trainer.”
While Steijn was recruited as a replacement for John Heitinga, Ajax could also have signed Postecoglou, according to Özturk. “If he had been scouted in time… He was just at Celtic, right? He could have worked for number sixteen in the Eredivisie, and they would have been second.”
