KYIV (Reuters) – Ukraine received aid worth $1.15 billion (1.08 billion euros) from the United States on Wednesday under the PEACE program in Ukraine, the ministry said Ukrainian Finance.
This new support is provided within the framework of the World Bank’s PEACE project which had already allocated funding to Ukraine for its development.
The project aims to offset state budget spending in the social and humanitarian fields, and is not intended for security or defense, the Finance Ministry said.
“In 2023, Ukraine has already received $10.9 billion in direct budgetary support from the United States in the form of grants,” the ministry commented.
“Since the start of the war, the Ukrainian state budget has already received $22.9 billion from the United States,” Finance Minister Serhiy Marchenko was quoted as saying by his ministry.
Ukraine depends on foreign funding to fill its budget deficit and finance social spending. Kyiv is also trying to find funds to rebuild critical infrastructure, schools and hospitals damaged during the nearly 20 months of war.
