More guests stayed overnight in Frankfurt in June than ever before. New tourism figures prove this. The city seems to be becoming increasingly popular with tourists from home and abroad.
Frankfurt – Tourism in Frankfurt is reviving. Summer is going really well for the industry. According to current figures from Tourismus und Congress GmbH Frankfurt am Main, more guests stayed overnight in Frankfurt in June than ever before. As the city announced in a report, the numbers have not only reached pre-pandemic levels, but have even set a new record.
Tourism in Frankfurt: This is the industry’s balance sheet
In the month of June, almost 539,700 guests booked into Frankfurt hotels and hostels. This is an increase of 13.7 percent compared to the previous year. The majority of tourists – over 345,000 – came from Germany. This share also grew by 9.8 percent. Overall, the Frankfurt tourism industry is looking at 950,178 overnight stays in June – 13.8 percent more than in 2022.
Guests from abroad are also rediscovering Frankfurt as a travel destination, with over 194,000 visiting the city in June. The number of foreign guests and overnight stays have grown by more than 20 percent. This is a remarkable increase, but the level before the start of the corona pandemic has not yet been reached, according to the city’s report.

Tourists from America in particular visit Frankfurt
Looking ahead to the first half of 2023, one development is seen as particularly positive. In the first six months, almost 949,400 guests (+ 63.8 percent) came to Frankfurt from abroad compared to 2022. Overnight stays increased by 55.6 percent, rising to over 1.8 million overall.
Where do the tourists come from? As in 2022, American travelers make up the largest proportion of visitors. The Chinese guests are a little more reserved. Here too, overnight stays increased by almost 37 percent. However, at just under 78,800, they remained well below the pre-pandemic level. Interesting: The largest proportionate increase in overnight stays among foreign guests has so far come from tourists from Taiwan.
Frankfurt is popular as a travel destination: more tourists from Germany
But more and more tourists from their own country also seem to be discovering Frankfurt for themselves. Here, too, significantly more, almost 1.8 million people, visited the metropolis on the Main. This results in an increase of 41.2 percent. Together with the increased overnight stays (almost 3 million, + 32.1 percent compared to the previous year), this results in a new record for domestic guests in the first half of a year.
In June, tourists were able to choose between 283 Frankfurt hotels and guesthouses. Over 63,000 beds were offered. The average tourist in Frankfurt spends almost two full days here. (Josefin Schröder)
Frankfurt’s popular Zeil shopping mile has been officially car-free for 50 years. The fact that it wasn’t like that once is surprising.
