The Influence of Artificial Intelligence in the Field of Arts: Perspectives from Indonesian Illustrator and Writer

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Arts workers such as Indonesian illustrator Wastana Haikal and writer Marchella FP share their views on the influence of artificial intelligence (Artificial Intelligence/AI) in his field of work.

Now, the spread of the use of AI is growing rapidly and is widespread in various sectors and applications. AI technology continues to develop and integrate into various aspects of daily life, it is even said that it can do jobs that humans do, such as writing to making designs.

When met at the ‘Create with Lenovo: Smarter Technology for Content Innovation’ event in Jakarta, Wednesday, the illustrator who is familiarly called Haikal said he was not worried about the presence of AI which is predicted to be able to replace his job.

“However AI does not have feelings and past experiences like humans, which influence its art. “In the field of design, AI work can also violate the ethics and rules of artists, where it creates works that combine the work of existing human artists,” he said.

Instead of helping, Haikal says he has never and has no interest in using AI in his work. According to him, authentic and original self-made works are the best.

“I’m sure AI will not take over human functions, especially in the field of art,” said Haikal.

In contrast to Haikal, Marchella, author of the book “NKTCHI” or “Later We’ll Tell You About Today” was actually greatly helped by the presence of this advanced technology. Not for creating works, AI can help Marchella when she looks for references when writing.

“I usually use AI to look for references, for example, I want to write down the morning atmosphere in a city abroad, and AI will describe in detail what the atmosphere is like there, which is very helpful for me who has never experienced that atmosphere directly,” he explained.

Even though it is very helpful, the writer, who will soon launch his newest work, said he should still adhere to the integrity of an artist. Where, he only uses AI as a tool to help, not replace its position.
