Thank you for always supporting THE YELLOW MONKEY.
Regarding the Nippon Budokan performance on December 28, 2023 (Thursday), which was announced at the end of last year, we have decided to postpone the event as vocalist Kazuya Yoshii is unable to make sufficient preparations to sing.
We sincerely apologize to everyone who has been looking forward to it.
Below we would like to inform you about the history of Kazuya Yoshii’s condition.
In response to this announcement, we will be immediately distributing the recorded video comments of the members on[TYMS MOVIE]exclusively for BELIEVER. members from 20:00 tomorrow, October 12th (Thursday).
After Kazuya Yoshii’s solo performance at Nippon Budokan on December 28, 2021, he felt something strange in his throat, so he visited a specialist early in the new year and was diagnosed with a polyp caused by inflammation.
After that, I decided to temporarily postpone (and later cancel) the tour’s last performance in Tokyo on January 14, 2022, and have surgery to remove the polyp in February.
After the post-surgery period where I was not allowed to speak, I entered the rehabilitation period.
The diagnosis at that time was that I would be able to sing after about 3 months.
After that, I started voice training and slowly started to improve my voice, but even before summer, I still wasn’t able to sing to my satisfaction, and I had to go to several hospitals.
While I was being examined by a doctor specializing in voice for a while, a tumor that appeared to be a polyp was discovered again.
Then, in September, I had surgery to remove it again.
At this point, I gave up on my originally planned solo performance at Nippon Budokan in December of that year.
After a period of no vocalization, when he slowly started speaking again, what appeared to be a tumor was discovered again.
Amid suspicions that it was not a normal vocal cord polyp, the doctor had a third surgery to remove it in October and sent the polyp to a university hospital for testing. Test results from a university hospital in November showed early stage laryngeal cancer.
At this stage, I did not tell everyone the name of the disease because I received feedback that it would have been better to have discovered it early, and there was no doubt that with treatment it would be completely cured in about 3 months.
I was able to start treatment right away, and by the beginning of this year, it was successfully completed and completely cured.
Around May, I was diagnosed with a lingering inflammation and was advised to refrain from singing for a while, so I was delayed from the original timing of starting singing.
Now that summer is here, we are approaching the time to record vocals for a new song that we have been working on since last year, and we have started new voice training.
We set a day for vocal recording at the end of July, and it was the first time I had sung in a while, but right after recording that day, my voice became hoarse.
However, the next day, after several takes, we completed the song.
Initially, we had planned to start singing slowly around Golden Week and then head to the year-end performance, but it was in September that we decided to try singing a number of songs as if they were live, with the entire band at full volume.
I sang 17 songs the first time, but I was never satisfied.
I went into the studio again in late September, but it still wasn’t in perfect condition.
After looking at his subsequent diagnosis and progress, and after consulting with various organizations, we decided that he was not sufficiently prepared to make a full comeback at Budokan this year.
I am truly sorry to everyone who has been waiting, but I will once again carefully move towards a full recovery.
The new song mentioned in the preamble is scheduled to be released in November.
It’s been a long time since I last released a new song from THE YELLOW MONKEY.
Lastly, I would like to thank many hospitals for their help up until this point.
I never have any regrets or misjudgment about my decisions.
In the future, I would like to continue to receive medical treatment from specialists in various related areas and provide daily care.
Once again, we would like to apologize to those who have been looking forward to the year-end performance.
We would appreciate it if you could wait for a while.
