World Mental Health Day was commemorated this Tuesday, like every October 10, organized by the World Federation for Mental Health (WFMH) and supported by the World Health Organization (WHO). This celebration attempts to make visible the situation of people with mental disorders and their families and the rights of these people are publicly vindicated.
For this reason, the Psychiatry Service, of the Segovia Health Care Management, organized several commemorative events on Tuesday morning in which the need to fight against the isolation and stigma of people who suffer from an illness is highlighted. mental. On this occasion, patients and professionals created a mural in the main lobby of the Hospital which they called ‘Breaking myths’.
In addition, the users of the Psychosocial Rehabilitation Center developed their own motto: ‘I decide what is best for me. Will you come with me?’, reading a manifesto in which they claimed the right to make their own decisions in their daily lives and to their own independence.
The event closed with a few words of gratitude from the Segovia Health Care manager, Luis José Gómez de Montes, who, accompanied by the rest of the management team, spoke with professionals and users of the rehabilitation center.

Next, an exhibition consisting of twenty paintings made by users of the ‘Antonio Machado’ Mental Health Center and the Mental Health Day Hospital was inaugurated at the Reading House.
Finally, at the same event, fanzine No. 7: ‘The corner of tranquility’, a creative writing project intended to convey different emotional situations of the users of the Rehabilitation Center, was presented to family members, users and professionals.

The proposal of the Mental Health Federation of Castilla y León and the Amanecer de Segovia Association, ‘Support mental health with your image’, was welcomed by numerous citizens. An initiative in which the participants took a photo with a poster on which the date on which Mental Health Day is commemorated appears and the hashtag #SaludMentalLawUniversal, to share it on their profiles on social networks and thus contribute to raise awareness in society regarding the situation of people with mental disorders and their families.
