The accident also causes a lot of disruption to train traffic on the busy train connection between Brussels and Ghent. Trains can no longer pass in either direction. The trains have to make a detour, which causes delays of up to 20 minutes. As a result, some trains do not run at all.
At the site of the accident, a train with 500 passengers stood still for a while.
