When the Democratic Party of Korea strongly criticized Rep. Ahn Cheol-soo’s remark, “I fell asleep with XX,” during a support campaign for the Gangseo-gu mayor by-election on the 10th, Rep. Ahn Cheol-soo of the People’s Power Party countered, saying, “It was a sublimation of citizen swear words into humor.”
According to Yonhap News, Rep. Ahn’s office, which released a video of the campaign scene to the media on this day, said, “The Makmal Party, which is synonymous with harsh language, cannot distinguish between humor and harsh words, so it is worthy of the original harsh language party.”
Rep. Ahn, a standing advisor to the Gangseo-gu mayor by-election campaign committee, rode on a campaign vehicle in Gangseo-gu the day before to support People Power Party candidate Kim Tae-woo.
Rep. Ahn targeted Democratic Party candidate Jin Kyo-hoon, a former deputy chief of the National Police Agency, and said, “Securing the lives of the people is the only job given to him, but do you know his track record? “During my time as deputy chief of the National Police Agency, violent crimes in the first quarter of 2022 increased by about 70% compared to a year ago,” he claimed.
However, during the speech, a citizen in front of the campaign van said, “You fell asleep like XX.” He swore, “Dog XX.” Then Rep. Ahn laughed and said, “I really fell asleep with XX.”

Rep. Ahn’s side explained, “A passing citizen swore at Rep. Ahn, and Rep. Ahn thought this was a remark made in a heated environment and responded with humor.”
He then criticized, “Rep. Ahn’s remarks, which sublimated insults thrown by citizens critical of our party into humor, should not be distorted to influence the election with the sole purpose of slandering them without any context.”
Previously, Kang Seon-woo, spokesperson for the Democratic Party, urged in a written briefing, “Rep. Ahn Cheol-soo, who visited Gangseo on Hangeul Day and uttered profanity, should maintain some dignity.”
