Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Alien life has been successfully revealed by the United States Space Agency (NASA). The agency said life on other planets is believed to be not far from Earth.
NASA Gooddard Space Flight Center research scientist, Michelle Thaller believes that life exists in the solar system. Namely on Venus, Earth’s neighboring planet.
“I’m sure we will find life on other planets. I think in our Solar System, we are so close but not 100% sure,” said Thaller, quoted from Mirror, Tuesday (10/10/2023).
“I never expected Venus. Venus is now a place where we see something in the atmosphere that looks like it was produced by bacteria,” said Thaller.
However, Thaller’s words were quite surprising. Because Venus has an environment that does not support human life there.
For information, the distance between Venus and the Sun is around 107.8 million km. This situation makes the second planet in the solar system very hot, reaching 475 million miles.
Venus’s atmosphere also does not support life, because it contains toxic acids. The atmosphere consists of sulfuric acid and carbon dioxide to prevent heat from escaping from the planet.
University College of London astrobiologist Dominic Papineau also denied Thaller’s remarks. To detect life, he said liquid water needed to be found.
“For chemical reactions related to life to take place, liquid water is needed. Therefore, to find life outside Earth, it is necessary to find liquid water and to find fossils outside Earth it is necessary to look for sedimentary rocks that have been in contact with liquid water in the past then,” he explained.
