“Lebanon Debate”
All that was missing from the collapsed Lebanese economy was a war raging on its southern front. This possibility is very likely with the continuing escalation in the region as a result of the “Al-Aqsa Flood.”
How will these conditions affect Lebanon’s economy? Will we witness a new “flood” of the black dollar?!
In this context, economic expert Antoine Farah stressed that “tension in the countries of the region bordering Lebanon may affect the Lebanese economy, meaning that when the general climate is tense in any regional region, it is obvious that the economies of the countries of the region will be negatively affected by this climate.”
In an interview with Lebanon Debate, Farah said: “When the war began in Syria in 2011, Lebanon’s economy was directly affected, and that was before the problem of the displaced, that is, once the region became turbulent.”
He considered that “the Gaza war will affect the Lebanese economy, but Lebanon may be affected more today, as it is a confrontation state, meaning that Lebanon is a state that could be involved in the war, and therefore it could move to Lebanon, and here lies the biggest problem.”
He pointed out that “the Lebanese economy today is basically collapsed, and the people’s capabilities are almost non-existent, in addition to the state’s capabilities being completely non-existent, and the countries’ preparations to help Lebanon in the event that there is war and destruction will be much less than they were in 2006, so in the event that the war spreads to… Lebanon, we will face a major catastrophe on the economic level.”
Farah concluded by saying: “If the war does not reach Lebanon, and is confined to the Gaza Strip, there will be impacts on the Lebanese economy, but they will be sideways, and it is possible to absorb them, but if the war there is prolonged, in the absence of Lebanese solutions, it is natural.” The exchange rate of the dollar on the black market will be affected.”
