The rumor mill continues to churn…
The Catalan daily newspaper “Sport” recently reported that Lionel Messi (36) could return to FC Barcelona on loan in January.
According to “Sky”, another reunion is now up for debate this winter: namely that between Messi and superstar Cristiano Ronaldo (38). However, this would then take place in Saudi Arabia.

Accordingly, the Saudi Arabian Football Association and the sovereign wealth fund PIF are currently discussing whether and how they can lure the Inter Miami player to the desert on loan until the start of the MLS season at the end of February.
The PIF holds majority shares in the four largest clubs in Saudi Arabia: Al-Nassr, Al-Hilal, Al-Ittihad and Al-Ahly.
Messi is under contract with Inter Miami until 2025. However, the Beckham club missed the playoffs this season. Is the Argentine world champion using the free time to play football somewhere else?
Messi wouldn’t be the first to take this step. David Beckham (48) moved to AC Milan from LA Galaxy on loan during the 2008/09 winter break. France superstar Thierry Henry (44) also used the break to make a comeback to Arsenal in 2012.
In Saudi Arabia, Messi would meet his former long-term rival Cristiano Ronaldo. The two know each other well from the Spanish league – Messi was still playing for Barça and Ronaldo was playing for rival Real Madrid.
CR7 has now been playing for Al-Nassr for a year and is currently in third place with the club. Messi moved from Paris Saint-Germain to Miami in the summer.
Even back then there was speculation as to whether the ex-Barça star would go to Saudi Arabia instead of the USA – but he didn’t.
